Day #9 – Favourite Quote

Everyone has a favourite quote. Whether it be something you have heard on the radio, on the TV or even in person. Or maybe it may have been something you have read from somewhere like a book or online. Me? I found my favourite quote from a book that, to this day, is still my favourite that I have read and it is also known as a main quote that is related to the writer.

The quote is; “Reality is far more precious than a story.”

In fact, this quote struck me hard enough for me to get it tattooed on my forearm (which my parents were not pleased about).

For me, tattoos are something that needs to be meaningful. That is what I found that I liked about the quote. Some people didn’t understand the meaning behind it at first. But recently I have been getting a lot of praise for the choice of quote.

If you are still unsure of what this quote actually means, or at least to me, that is perfectly fine. Let me shed some light on my thoughts on this quote.

So, growing up I was really into reading, every summer I was always doing reading challenges that were being held at the library I always went to. It encouraged me to keep reading, even after I had outgrown the challenges. I took to the internet and found Wattpad where I found so many inspiring writers who have actually managed to get their stories made into books, both hard copies and digital.

I loved the feeling of shutting myself off and happily reading till I had to stop, not my choice. I guess, over time, I became too emerged in the universe of reading, that I would often forget what reality was. Always comparing what my day to day life is like and then what it is like in a story I would be reading. When I found this book/author, and found that quote, it made me stop and realise that I need to come back to reality and focus on what I am doing in real life and start living my days. I still read to this day, but I always remind myself that reality is far more valuable than words I am reading within a book.

The book I am referring to throughout this post is The Sight by David Clement-Davies.

What would you think if you heard this quote somewhere?
