A Week In Cornwall

Cornwall is found in the southwestern tip of England, where it is made of hundreds of sandy beaches and wild moorland. It is also lined with towering cliffs and seaside resorts where many go to surf. There is so much history within different parts of Cornwall for you to discover and learn. It is also place for all different people who either like to relax, explore, or even like to appreciate, whether you are on your own, with a partner or with family, there is always something for you here.

I was lucky enough to spend just under a week in this beautiful place, and it being my first time, I fell in love with the place. I had gone down to visit a friend who had been attending college down there and stayed at hers and her boyfriends place, which I am incredibly thankful for. They were basically my tour guides on my little trip down here and they showed me so many beautiful places that opened my eyes to so much. We tried to get so much fitted into just a few days, but, we managed to squeeze a lot out of it.

After nearly 5 hours of travelling down to Exeter, where I was meeting my friend, and then another hour and a half driving down to Bodmin, we were finally all settled, and I had basically moved in for the week. We didn’t sit still for long because we were soon out and about again! We took a quick drive down to catch the sunset at Polzeath which looked stunning. Even though it was quite cloudy, the sun still broke through and beamed down on the beach. There are many different shops around here and multiple options of bars and restaurants to fulfil your hunger throughout the day.

Day 2

Our first stop of my second day here in Cornwall, was to a small town called Looe. There are so many cute little shops around here that there is honestly something for everyone. There are a few souvenir shops around as well, and if you are like me who like collecting a little something in the different places you go, definitely stop in these. Make sure you check them all out before you make a decision as some have different things than the others and some also sell it for cheaper. There are also a few little food shops, including sweet shops and pastry shops which all looked so good. Like Sarah’s Cake Shop which was so cute and so much to offer. If you have a sweet tooth like me, I definitely recommend going in here! This is along with a fudge shop called Roly’s Fudge, which has a whole variety of different fudge, which I made a quick dash for to get some for my dad who loves sweet shop fudge.

Then, after you have seen the shops, there is the long path you can walk along to get to the end that is overlooking the sea. Which is also placed with the beach next to it, and the views and photos you can get are just stunning here.

Our second stop of the day was to Fowey, which is a small town and cargo port. If you are looking for an old styled English town, then this is the definitely the place you will want to visit. There are so many photo opportunities here that were just stunning. Everywhere you walked was just beautiful in its own way. Again, there were many different shops and even a gallery to suit everyones desires. The water here was also so blue that it truly didn’t even look like England. I have never seen anything like it in all the places I have been in this country.

My favourite part of being in Fowey that day was finding a little hideaway that had lots of steps to get down to sea level of the boats. Walking down here and seeing the view that you get from the bottom, reminded me of something you would see on the Greek Islands. The more I explored this place, the less it looked like England.

After walking around Fowey, we took a quick trip to Charlestown which is a village and port. When we arrived, we saw a lot of shops closing up due to the time we got there, so we didn’t get a chance to look around, and the restaurants were starting to get busy. I didn’t take many photos in this place because we decided to just sit on the way by the sea and take in the beauty of the area.

Our last visit of the day was to Cardinham Woods. This place is popular for all people, whether you would be walking or biking. There is a lot to explore here, and because we went there later on, it was very relaxed and there were hardly any people out apart from the occasional dog walkers. Wherever you walk in this place, you will be welcomed by the amazing scenery of the woodlands around you. We found a little bridge to which we jumped at the opportunity to take a few photos! It was so fun and we and it was just so enlightening to be surrounded by so much green.

Day 3

On day 3 of my visit down Cornwall, our first stop was to St. Michael’s Mount. This place is so interesting because you can only get to it during the low tide and have to be back on the main island before the low tide finishes, so always double check the day you are planning to visit this place of the times so you can be prepared when to go! Once you are there, there are many nice views around the whole place and it even has a small room that shows the history of the place. You can even walk up to the castle and walk around the gardens, which does cost a bit of money (I can’t remember how much) so we didn’t get to experience it unfortunately. They also have an Amphicraft on the island, which is used to provide the transport the island needs when it comes to winter months or during the high tides.

On our second stop, we visited Watergate Bay which is a popular place for both surfing and kitesurfing. When we got there, it was low tide, but we also timed it terribly because of the powerful winds that were there, causing us to not stay long unfortuantly. This is also one of the dog friendly beaches in Cornwall, and there were so many running around and having a great time. If you are a dog lover like me, you can imagine how amazing it was!

Our last stop of the day was to Padstow Life Boat Station. This lifeboat station opened in 2006 and every wednesday in the evening, visitors can come by and watch how they would prep to go out to sea. They do their parole at this time as well so you will actually get to see the boat leaving the station. I had never seen anything like this before, so it was really interesting to be able to watch. Dogs are welcome again here, just as long as they are behaved and they can handle stairs (there is a lot to get to this place). If you are interested in seeing a clip of this lifeboat going out, check out my youtube video which is linked at the bottom of this post.

Day 4

Day 4 was my last day of exploring in Cornwall so we packed a lot in on my last day! Our first stop of the day was to Boscastle. This is a small area with a few houses and shops and when you walk further up the trail, you come to the opening to the sea. The view was stunning and you can pretty much explore the whole place. We did think about exploring a bit more but realised that we didnt have a lot of time.

If you are looking for a cute little afternoon outing with the family, I definitely recommend here as there are a few little food shops and perfect to explore.

Our next stop of the day was at Tintagel, this place was just as stunning as everywhere else in Cornwall. If you are a fan of history, then this is the place for you, especially the medieval times, where this has the castle to which King Arthur was believed to have been conceived, you can learn more about this place as you explore.

Getting the chance to explore the cave that is sometimes shut off, was amazing. It is a bit of a tricky way to reach this part of it as once you reach the bottom of the stairs, you have to make your way over a bunch of rocks to get onto the beach. Once you are down on the beach and in the cave, it is totally worth it, was lovely to explore and interesting to see.

On our way to our next stop, we made a detour to this place. Rough Tor. This is the second highest mountain in Cornwall which everyone is welcome to climb if they wanted. You will also find that right next to it the largest mountain, which is called Brown Willy, another that the public are welcome to climb up! I unfortunately didn’t climb up it this time as it takes a few hours, so it is most certainly a must do activity the next time I am down there. Imagine the view you will see out amongst Cornwall! If you are an adventurist, then this will be something you would love to do!

After stopping at Rough Tor, we stopped amongst the Moors on the way back, and it was lovely to see so much greenery. That is definitely something I have noticed throughout my travels in Cornwall, that everywhere you go there is always so much greenery which is just a dream to see! These sort of places are amazing for photos or even if you wanted a picnic with your partner or family. Be careful though as farm stock tend to roam around there.

My last stop of my trip in Cornwall was to a lovely restaurant in Fowey, called Harbour Hotel. My two friends actually work here so they wanted to introduce me to the food and I am happy to say that I was not disappointed because the food was absolutely delicious. I have included pictures of the food because it was just so nicely presented as well that I had to share it!

For starters we had the bread and one of my friends ordered the seared scallops, pea, puree and bacon.

For mains, I had the roast half chicken, chipolatas and sage stuffing and let me tell you, I absolutely loved it. The chicken was so nice and was perfectly moist, and mixed with the stuffing and the chipolatas, it was like heaven. The other two meals you see in the photos are what my friends had, so one of them was the confit duck leg, braised lettuce and samphire peas, whereas the other meal was the seafood burger that had crab, prawn, scallop meat and citrus slaw.

The two deserts we had were the the Fowey ice cream sundae, which included vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, smarties, chocolate sauce, marshmallows, brownie, fudge and topped with a wafer, and the milk chocolate delice, hazelnut caramel brittle.

The inside of the hotel was so different, but all looked amazing nonetheless. My favourite parts from this hotel was the wicker chandelier that had monkeys dangling from it! They had an old fashioned elevator as well that everyone could use, which I loved seeing! Also, the bathroom is so beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing to see. They also had a lovely little balcony by the dining bit that you are welcome to go out and look from. This is definitely a magnificent place to go to if you would love a sunset in the background of you eating your meal.

If you made it to the end, thank you so much for reading! I honestly had such an amazing time in Cornwall and was so desperate to share it with you!

All opinions of these places are my own!
